The Palm Springs Police Department is investigating a bomb threat made against Raymond Cree Middle School.

According to PSPD, at about 2:50 p.m. on Tuesday, Raymond Cree Middle School staff notified the department of a possible threat at the school. A social media post by a Raymond Cree student "included a bomb threat that was to occur at the school on 12/04/2019."

School staff provided officers with identification of a juvenile of interest and investigators have made contact with them, PSPD confirmed.

"...at this time, investigators and school officials are working closely to determine the validity of the threat and confirm the student's involvement," reads a PSPD news release.

School officials and school administration along with the parents of the suspected juvenile are cooperating with investigators.

There is no other information available at this time. A Palm Springs School Unified District spokesperson confirmed that school is scheduled to go on as normal on Wednesday. In a letter to parents, Raymond Cree principal Bernie Marez wrote that there will be extra security and police presence on and around campus tomorrow.

"All threats, whether real or perceived, are taken seriously, and the safety of our students is our number one priority. Once the source of the post is located, appropriate legal and disciplinary action will also be taken. Please remind your students to report anything they see, hear or feel is suspicious. Please share with them, too, that no threats are a joke; the police take all threats seriously," writes Marez.
