Big rig crashes off I-10, crews clean up fuel leak

A big rig hauling cargo on a flatbed crashed off the side of Interstate 10 in Palm Desert Tuesday morning. Responding CAL FIRE crews were able to mitigate a minor fuel leak caused by the crash.

The incident was reported at 9:42 a.m., according to CHP.

The driver of the big rig, the sole occupant of the vehicle, did not sustain injuries. The collision scene was in between the Cook Street and Washington Street exit on I-10 eastbound. The truck appeared to run through a row of tamarisk trees near the railroad tracks.

CAL FIRE Engine 81 responded to the scene. According to CHP, Riverside County Environmental Health Department personnel also responded to the scene.

The incident did not force any lane closures.
