Indio and Coachella both see double-digit increases of coronavirus in just one day

There are currently 373 cases of coronavirus confirmed in Coachella Valley cities, county health officials report. Adding in the community totals from Bermuda Dunes, Thousand Palms, Sky Valley, Oasis, Mecca and Thermal, the area total rises to 388. This is 54 more cases than were reported Saturday.

Between Saturday and Sunday, Indio saw an increase of ten confirmed cases, bringing the total to 74. Indio leads Coachella Valley with the highest number of cases, taking the lead from Palm Springs on Saturday.

Coachella also saw a double-digit increase, growing to 54 cases, from the 43 confirmed Saturday.

Riverside County now has a total of 1,619 confirmed cases of Covid-19, or novel coronavirus. This is an increase of 188 cases from Saturday's measure of 1,431 confirmed cases.

According to health officials, 41 people have died related to coronavirus. This is unchanged from numbers released Saturday.

On Saturday, the number of cases in Indio surpassed the number in Palm Springs.

Palm Springs has the most deaths in Riverside County with 8 people losing their lives to the virus.

Riverside University Health System's models show that the number of cases throughout the area is expected to rise exponentially in the next two weeks.

The latest projections by county health officials show that the county would reach 10,000 cases by April 22. ICU beds are projected to reach capacity by April 14 with all regular beds set to follow suit by April 23.

In order to "flatten the curve" of coronavirus, Riverside County public health officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser ordered everyone to wear a face-covering when leaving home, including essential workers.

Face coverings can be bandanas, scarves, neck gaiters or other clothing that does not have visible holes.
