Firefighters remain on scene of mulch fire near Desert Hot Springs

Update: Firefighters remain on the scene of a mulch fire off of Palm Drive and 20th Avenue in Desert Hot Springs.

All roads in the area remain open. No evacuations were ordered for nearby residents.

Parts of the mulch fire continue to burn. Firefighters are monitoring the flames.

Update: 30 homes are now being threatened by the fire.

Evacuation orders have not yet been put in place for the area.

Original post: Firefighters are on the scene of a mulch fire near the intersection of Palm Drive and 20th Avenue in Desert Hot Springs.

Cal Fire says about an acre of land is burning.

A News Channel 3 crew at the scene confirmed that the fire is burning in piles of mulch and debris.

Several fire crews are on the scene right now. Strong winds appear to be playing a role in the incident.
