Staying well above normal with rain on the way

Near record-breaking heat again

Palm Springs broke the record high-temperature yesterday, November 16th. The high temperature reached was 92° which passed the previous record of 89° from 2008.

Today will be another above-average day, with a forecast just shy of the record high in Palm Springs.

The reason conditions are warmer than normal with clear skies and dry air is because of an area of high pressure that continues to progress over California from the west. This area of high pressure is contributing to warmer than normal temperatures today, just as it did for yesterday.

We are also seeing an offshore flow, Santa Ana Winds, through Southern California for this Sunday. A Red Flag Warning went into effect at 1 a.m. and will continue through 6 p.m. this evening. Areas of winds will be from the northeast to east 20-30 mph with gusts reaching to 50 mph. Location of gusty winds will be near coastal mountain slopes and through valley corridors below passes and canyons. Relative humidity will be near 10%.

The valley floor is expected to stay on the lighter side with these winds. Gusty conditions should subside after the morning hours.

We are watching for a big cool down on the way for Wednesday and Thursday with rain chances from a storm that will move in from the north. The best chances for rain in the Coachella Valley will be Wednesday. Rain totals for the low and high desert look to see a range of about 0.25"-0.50" likely.

Temperatures will drop into the 60's for highs. The next few days though, still expected to be above average with only a slight cool down by Tuesday.
