Waiting for a big cool down and some rainfall

On the way as early as Tuesday

Today was another warm and above-average day for Palm Springs. The high temperature was 92° which means we tied the record high from 1933 for November 17th. Thermal also broke a record high temperature today reaching 93° and passing the old record of 91° from 2008.

We can thank this area of high pressure over California for bringing the warm, dry, and clear conditions to the region. Normally, we should be in the mid to upper 70's for this time of year.

Winds will continue to become lighter through the evening and into tomorrow morning with a Red Flag Warning expiring at 6 p.m. this Sunday. The next things we are looking forward to are some cool temperatures and rain chances. On Tuesday evening, an upper-level low-pressure system from the north will be moving south. This will bring cooler temperatures and the chance for our first winter storm of the season. Yes, winter, but not in the traditional sense. When we talk about a winter storm for the season we are referencing the chance for a variety of precipitation forms. Some isolated showers can start as early as Tuesday morning through the afternoon with moisture being picked up from the south.

How much rain are we talking about? The high desert could see 0.25" - 0.50" and the low desert could pick up on 0.10" - 0.25".

How much snow potential? By elevation, 6,000 - 6,500 ft. could see 1"-2", 6,500 - 7,000 ft. could see 2"-5", and above 7,000 ft. could see 6"-10" of snowfall. For reference, Big Bear Lake sits at an estimated elevation of 6,752 ft.

Temperatures will cool down into the 60's by Wednesday and stay in the 60's for Thursday before we climb back to seasonally normal temperatures in the 70's.
