Masked gunmen attack Kosovo police and kill 1 officer in an escalation of tensions with Serbia

PRISTINA, Kosovo (AP) — Kosovo’s prime minister says one police officer has been killed and another wounded in an attack he blames on support from neighboring Serbia. The attack on Sunday raises tensions between the two former war foes at a delicate moment in their European Union-facilitated dialogue to normalize ties. Kosovo police say three of the assailants also were killed. Prime Minister Albin Kurti alleged that “organized crime” with political, financial and logistical supported from Serbia carried out the attack on a group of police officers. Serbia’s president is expected to respond soon. The Kosovo Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church said a group of masked man in an armored vehicle also stormed a monastery and broke down a locked gate.
