CV Links gains ground as CTC releases nearly $30 million for construction
The CV Link is one step closer to its next phase.
On Friday, Erica Felci, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments governmental projects manager, issued a news release on the release of $29.447 million in California Transportation Commission funds for the next phase of construction for the CV Link.
“The California Transportation Commission (CTC) has been a strong supporter of our vision to provide cyclists and pedestrians with a safe route across the Coachella Valley,” CVAG Executive Director Tom Kirk said in a statement. “This is a vision that has been shared by a long list of community stakeholders, active transportation advocates, health care industry representatives, air quality experts and the tourism community. We are looking forward to seeing construction valleywide this year.”
The next stretch of the cross-valley thoroughfare will span 13.5 miles across Palm Springs, Palm Desert, La Quinta, Indio, and Coachella, and unincorporated communities. The CV Link is expected to stretch 40 miles upon completion. For now, the only completed stretch is in Palm Springs and Cathedral City.
“Far too many people are discouraged from running and walking along our roadways because they see how dangerous it can be. We need investments like CV Link to really make a difference,” La Quinta Councilman Robert Radi, Chairman of the CVAG Transportation Committee said in a statement. “We look forward to bringing this project to fruition in all of our communities.”
The CTC's vote for release of funds comes just after the CVAG Executive Committee approved the initiation of the hiring process for a construction manager for the next segment of the project on Monday.
The construction management company hired, Anser Advisory Group, will be on board for a multi-year contract with CVAG. Anser was also hired on by the city of Palm Desert for its section of city-led construction on the CV Link.
