DCA

A three-day football event featuring camps, tournaments, challenges and more than 20 former NFL pros including Hall-of-Famer Marshall Faulk will be held next month in Bermuda Dunes, it was announced today.

Desert Christian Academy will host the Coachella Showcase event from March 8 to 10, according to a statement from the school.

"The goal is to bring notoriety to the Coachella Valley and get our student-athletes to be coached by the best,'' Desert Christian Academy Administrator and former NFL player Chris Johnson said in a statement. "This is a once in a lifetime chance to come out and support us as fans and participants, and showcase our thriving and talented valley.''

At 4 p.m. the first day, players will participate in Zybek Combine Testing, a "Standardized Athlete Test'' which delivers usable data on speed, agility and strength, according to DCA officials. From 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., players from elementary school to high school will have the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of football at the "Coached by the Pros" camp.

Faulk will teach and 20 more football experts, including nine-year NFL veteran Darnay Scott and 13-year NFL veteran Robert Griffith will help lead the camp, DCA officials said.

The following two days, from 10 a.m. to noon, the public will have an opportunity to attend a meet-and-greet which will feature music, food trucks, vendors and a competitive atmosphere, according to DCA. Players will also compete in a 7-on-7 tourney and young lineman will compete in the Coachella Lineman Challenge for the "King of the Lineman" trophy.
