UPDATE: PSPD says standoff suspect died by self-inflicted gunshot wound

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Palm Springs Police say a barricaded suspect believed to be responsible for shooting one person, died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound Sunday evening.

4/26 4 p.m.:

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KESQ) - Palm Springs Police say one person was shot twice by a barricaded suspect near West San Rafael between North Indian Canyon and McCarthy Road.

A News Channel 3 crew at the scene says it appears officers have shot tear gas or a flash bang inside the building.

There is a heavy police presence, both on the ground and in the sky with a helicopter.

The gunshot victim is in stable condition at a nearby hospital, according to officials.

Palm Springs Police are asking the public and residents to avoid the area while it is an active scene.
