Student-Athlete of the Week – Trey Boulton

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) – Our latest student-athlete of the week is Palm Desert Aztecs senior wide receiver Trey Boulton. Boulton is a student-athlete that leads by example in everything he does.

“He's a leader in the weight room, leader in the classroom, [and] leader on the field,” head coach Rudy Forti said.

Boulton started playing football at four years old, and never stopped. He found passion and love for the sport, despite his parents pushing for other sports.

“They actually wanted me to do anything but football," Boulton laughed. "They put me in a bunch of different sports, hoping I wouldn't really like football, but they kind of just threw everything at the wall, and football kind of just stuck.”

Now he's one of the strongest athletes for the Aztecs, with over 700 receiving yards last season. For Boulton, football has created a community that he said "you can't find anywhere else." 

“it's just like the excitement and joy it brings and just that that feeling of community," Boulton said. "Me and my friends, we've come up together throughout the years and now it's kind of fun being the seniors on the campus.”

“I don't have to worry too much about the team when I'm not around here," Forti said. "There's always going to be a guy [Boulton] who's going to set everyone straight and keep them in check.”

While it's no question Boulton is a star on the field for the Aztecs, what fans don't get to see on under the stadium lights is high work ethic in the classroom.

“My GPA all through high school has been like around like the 3.9-4.0 range," Boulton said. "Last year, it took a jump, and in this first semester up to 4.3.”

“He's working hard. He's had a good upbringing, and his parents have done a great job with him," Forti said. "And he knows what is what it takes. There's not going to be life after football, so he's getting himself an education to be successful”

Boulton said he's been speaking with coaches about playing football after graduation. He's not sure where he's heading yet, but he knows where his interests lie off the field.

“I want to go down either the psychology route or the English route," Boulton said. "I've just always been fascinated by writing, and it's always coming easy to me. A lot of people have topics they struggle on, like people struggle with math and struggling in writing. But, I've always just really enjoyed writing.”
