Excessive Heat Warning remains in effect this weekend for the Coachella Valley

A ridge of high pressure will dominate the weather pattern this weekend and again next week.

This ridge of high pressure, for Saturday, will leave temperatures near 15° above seasonal average. The average for Palm Springs today is 87°. The record high temperature for Palm Springs today is 104° set back in 1926. We will be very close to that record.

There are a few heat alerts this weekend and again next week. The first is the Excessive Heat Warning, in pink. This is for the entire Coachella Valley now through Sunday at 6 p.m. Temperatures will reach up to 105°. The second is the Heat Advisory, for areas west highlighted in orange. This advisory is for temperatures reaching up to 98° and it is in effect from 11 a.m. through 6 p.m. Saturday. In red, we have an Excessive Heat Watch for temperature up to 102° for areas including the Morongo Valley. This is a watch issued for the second ridge of high pressure moving in next week. This watch is in effect Tuesday morning through Thursday evening.

This is the first major heat event of the year. It's important to remember the signs, symptoms, and actions surrounding heat illness.

Temperatures will see a slight decrease by the end of the weekend into Monday before the second ridge of high pressure builds and warms temperatures near 104° again by Tuesday.
