Excessive Heat Warning extended through Thursday for the Coachella Valley
Yesterday, Palm Springs got one degree shy of the record. The high temperature reached 103° and the record was 104° set back in 1926. Today's record is much higher, 109°. We will remain below the record today and below the average of 87°.
The reason temperatures continue to stay warm is because of a ridge of high pressure. It is slowly progressing east but the desert will see well above average temperature, by about 15.
An Excessive Heat Warning (highlighted in pink) remains in effect for the Coachella Valley and has been extended through 9 p.m. Thursday. Temperatures will reach up to 105°. Heat illness is possible, particularly for those working or participating in activities outdoors.
Another ridge of high pressure builds next week, keeping temperatures in the triple digits through most of the week. An Excessive Heat Watch has been issued for areas in the high desert beginning Tuesday morning and lasting through Thursday evening. Temperatures are expected to reach up to 103°.
