Undercover law enforcement officers rescued

Cal Fire says six members from an undercover law enforcement operation were rescued from Mount San Jacinto Tuesday afternoon.

Cal Fire would not confirm what the officers were doing on the mountain top before becoming overheated and in need of being hoisted to safety by rescue crews.

The rescue operation began just before 11:30 when Palm Springs Fire got the call of 6 people needing help. They set up a command post on Tramway Road in Palm Springs before turning the operation over to Cal Fire just after noon.

No word on the condition of the officers or what law enforcement agency they were working with at this time.
