Dinah Shore Weekend set to begin in Palm Springs

The 23rd Dinah Shore Weekend will start in Palm Springs tonight.

The event, which caters to lesbians, will start with a party at 8 p.m. at the Hilton, 400 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way. Dinah Shore Weekend runs through April 7 and will include two new events — a celebrity poker tournament to benefit the Human Rights Campaign, and a sitcom premiere, according to event spokeswoman Mona Elyafi.

Entertainment includes pop duo Karmin, who will headline the Monte Carlo party at the Palm Springs Convention Center April 6, DJ Havana Brown, reggae/dancehall artist Diana King and electropop duo Uh Huh Her. Up-and-coming artists who will appear include Anjulie, K. Rose and Katy Tiz.

Comedians Fortune Feimster, Jackie Loeb and Suzanne Westenhoefer and reality TV stars Lauren Bedford Russell and Kiyomi McCloskey will also attend.

Actress Jill Bennett will host the premiere of two episodes of an independent sitcom, “Second Shot,” written by Nancylee Myatt, Dara Nai and Claudia Cogan.

The Dinah Shore Weekend, which started in 1991, is billed as the world’s largest lesbian event and includes dance and pool parties and concerts. Past headliners include Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, India.Arie, Ke$ha and Chaka Khan.
