Coachella Valley celebrates Fourth of July
People across the country and right here in our valley are celebrating the Fourth of July this weekend with backyard barbecues, pool time and firework.
Two annual firework shows sure didn’t disappoint and wowed crowds near and far in our desert.
Whether you celebrated at a professional show or put on your own at home, people across the valley were free to celebrate America’s birthday how they liked
“Hanging out with my family, barbecuing being around everyone that I love,” said Chad Lange, who lives in Cathedral City.
One Cathedral City fireworks stand has been busy selling “Safe and Sane” fireworks all week.
“Yeah, we’ve been out here since last Sunday, actually, selling fireworks and were raising money for the band program,” Matt Howe, director of bands at Cathedral City High School, said.
Just across town, families flocked to the annual Palm Springs Power game to catch some baseball before the firework show.
Pyrotechnicians began setting up the show at 2 a.m., making sure everything was safe for Saturday’s show
“Well, our whole crew here, have been trained and we have a fire inspector here on site. The operator here has 10 years experience,” Pyrotechnician Richard Hernandez said.
After the game, it was time for the grand finale.
And this year’s show didn’t disappoint.
“My favorite one is the strobes at the end of the finale. It’s not any one firework but the effects of the strobes blinking as the show ends that’s my favorite one,” Hernandez said.
