Border Patrol bust nets 22 packages of methamphetamine

Hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of methamphetamine was seized Wednesday morning during a Border Patrol bust.

El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents at the Highway 86 checkpoint stopped a vehicle for further inspection around 9 a.m. when a drug-sniffing dog alerted agents to it.

Agents then say they found 22 packages of meth hidden inside the vehicle’s rocker panels.

Agents say each package weighed a pound with a total estimated street value of $220,000.

Agents arrested the 33-year-old man driving a 2008 Gray Ford Fusion and a 31-year-old woman passenger inside.

The Border Patrol said both are Mexican nationals.

They were turned over to drug enforcement agency for prosecution.
