Police arrest Newport Beach man in assault on Uber driver

Authorities have arrested a man in connection with the assault of an Uber driver in Southern California that was recorded on dash camera video.

The Orange County Register reports 32-year-old Benjamin Golden, of Newport Beach, was arrested Friday on misdemeanor charges of public intoxication and assault.

The recorded incident begins with 23-year-old Edward Caban asking the suspect repeatedly for directions.

Caban eventually pulls over into what appears to be a lighted parking lot.

He accuses the suspect of being too drunk and tells him the ride is over.

The suspect, who is seated directly behind the driver, begins slapping Caban, pulling his hair and slamming his head toward the car window.

Caban eventually pulls out pepper spray and uses it on the suspect, who then exits the vehicle.
