San Bernardino Police Officer killed by alleged DUI driver
San Bernardino police officials say an on-duty officer was killed when his car was struck by a suspected drunk driver at an intersection in Ontario.
Lt. Rich Lawhead says the cruiser was t-boned shortly after 2 a.m. Thursday as the officer left West Valley Detention Center and headed for Interstate 10.
The officer was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The officer was identified as Bryce Hanes, of Redlands by KABC.
He leaves behind a wife and three children 12 years old and under.
The driver of the other car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Lawhead says the officer had been with the department for at least 10 years.
