Deputies investigate after human remains found on tribal land

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is investigating after human remains were found near Avenue 50 and Oates lane in Coachella on land owned by the Cabazon Band of Mission Indians, according to a release.

A Tribal Liaison Deputy with the Thermal Station responded to the call around 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 29.

According to the sheriff’s department, the remains were located within an illegally dumped-on debris field. Investigators with the Thermal Station responded to the scene and the coroner’s bureau collected the human remains for further investigation.

On Wednesday, November 4, deputies used cadaver dogs to search the area a second time and they found additional human remains.

Authorities said there are no indications of foul play at this time but the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Investigator Melissa Nieburger at 760-863-8990.
