Thousands support local charity at Color in Motion 5K in Indio
Bright colors painted the roads in Indio Saturday for the 3rd annual Color in Motion 5K run.
For the second year the run partnered with Martha’s Village and Kitchen for a day of fitness and fundraising.
“Ask yourselves ‘What difference can I make today?'” said Color in Motion 5K owner Kenneth Richardson.
Thousands of people answered that question hitting the pavement and getting covered in color.
Stephanie Minor, director of development for Martha’s Village and Kitchen, said they’re grateful for the support.
“So we are the largest provider of services in the valley. We help the impoverished and the homeless. So the money we raise here today will go to the food services program, help to get them education and give them advice,” Minor said.
Whether they’re walking, running or rolling participants said they’re helping a worthy cause.
“People have a lot of needs. And when you have a lot to give, you should give it to people who need it,” said runner, Nicolle Aparicio.
Event sponsor, Walter Clark Legal Group, shares a personal connection to Martha’s Village and Kitchen.
“Our clients need the assistance often of organizations like this. And this organization does more to help people who don’t have resources get the help they need more than any other organization,” said Walter Clark.
Color in Motion owner Kenneth Richarson said it’s amazing to see how the color run is growing and giving back.
“That’s really important to me and my wife. We both ran cross country and track in college and running has been a big part of our lives. And often that’s a common theme for runs is that they give back and that’s what we want to do,” Richardson said.
The run finishing in a colorful dance party on the Empire Polo Grounds.
