100-acre vegetation fire near Beaumont 100% contained

A fire that broke out Thursday near a Riverside County landfill south of Beaumont has been 100% contained as of Friday morning. It was not posing an immediate threat to homes or other structures. Cal Fire officials said the blaze was reported at 2:48 p.m. in the area of Lamb Canyon Road and Highway 69, and had grown to 40 acres in less than an hour. The fire grew to 100 acres Thursday afternoon but fire officials expected it to be fully contained by midnight.

Cal Fire released updated information at 8:15 a.m. on Friday stating the fire was fully contained.

The fire was 50% contained by about 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The fire ignited on the east side of the Lamb Canyon Landfill, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. An agency spokeswoman said one water-dropping helicopter arrived at the scene within minutes and requested assistance from at least four air tankers.

Multiple engine crews were sent to the location, which is in a largely unpopulated area, situated in hilly terrain. The cause of the fire was unknown. We’ll deliver updates when we hear back from fire investigators.
