A hiker was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries today after being rescued from a hiking trail in an unincorporated area of Riverside County near Palm Desert.

Fire crews responded at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday to a report of an inaccessible rescue on the Art Smith Hiking Trail, according to the Riverside County Fire Department.

When crews reached the destination, it was found that the hiker sustained moderate injuries, fire officials said. A UTV and other resources were used to remove the hiker from the trail.
