4th District Homeless Symposium to be held Thursday in Indio

Office of Supervisor Manuel Perez

The Riverside County Housing and Workforce Solutions Department will host a Fourth District Homeless Symposium on Thursday to facilitate a discussion on creating housing and addressing homelessness.

The symposium will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, 47470 Van Buren St., according to Supervisor V. Manuel Perez. It will feature presentations from officials with Riverside County, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments and three local cities: Palm Springs, Desert Hot Springs and Palm Desert.

"Having moved to conducting the homelessness point-in-time count once every two years, we are using this time to really take a step back and think through where we can get better,'' Perez said in a statement. "This symposium will show the investments that have been done and partnerships in cities, and report on progress in our county's Homeless Action Plan."

Attendees can expect opening remarks from Perez, followed by a presentation from the Riverside County Housing and Workforce Solutions Department on the Homeless Action Plan, according to Perez. The presentation will go over how many people have been assisted and plans for the future.

Additionally, the Coachella Valley Association of Governments will discuss the CV 200 program, the three cities will report on specific initiatives addressing homelessness, and a roundtable discussion will cover each presenter's successes, challenges and efforts to increase the supply of affordable housing, Perez added.

"This is going to be informative and also an interactive assessment of our efforts and (a) solution-focused symposium,'' Perez said.
