Shoppers flock to Cabazon stores for holiday deals

Hundreds of shoppers are taking advantage of Black Friday deals at Cabazon stores.

Several told News Channel 3 it's been a hectic shopping day filled with lines of hundreds of people.

Some locals are taking advantage of the holiday rush.

Esmeralda Mata said for 5 years, she's turned her yard into a parking lot for overflow shoppers.

"It's helped us. We do charge people, but we take care of their vehicles," Mata said.

With thousands of people in the area, Mata said safety is a concern.

"There's people always looking in windows," Mata said. "Breaking windows."

Deputy Roger Doyle, Riverside County Sheriff's Department, said the department is stepping up its patrol with eyes in the sky.

"This is the first year that we've deployed the drones." Doyle said. "They're out here just to ensure the safety of the vehicles, pedestrians and the people that are out here while they're doing their shopping."
