Indio Police warns of phone scam targeting residents

1-31-PHONE-SCAM-WARNING

The Indio Police Department issued a warning Friday morning about a phone scam that is targeting city residents.

'[Targets] have stated that they receive phone calls and/or text messages from unknown persons who tell the victims that they know their name and address," read the IPD release.

Money is then demanded from the victim via wire transfer while threats are leveled toward the target's family if the funds are not received. The incidents also have involved the scammer sending graphic images to the victims as a part of the threats.

Victims are encouraged to immediately report the scams to local enforcement agencies if targeted. To fraud schemes to the FBI directly, click this link.
