Firebirds fall 2-1 in preseason matchup with Ontario Reign after shootout

PALM DESERT, Calif. (KESQ) – The Coachella Valley Firebirds hosted a preseason game Sunday night against the Ontario Reign. The matchup just five days ahead of the season opener, where these teams will face off once again.

Both teams played well in this game, keeping each other from the net in the first period. The Firebirds were able to pull away, and net the first goal of the game. A great set up from Lleyton Roed and Eduard Sale, put defenseman Tyson Jugnauth.

Coachella Valley continued to hold off Ontario until the last second of this game. The Reign came in and battled for a goal with 1.3 seconds left on the clock, which tied this game at 1-1.

The two teams went into a 3-on-3 sudden-death overtime, but neither team could break the tie. Ultimately, this game went into a shootout where the Firebirds couldn't find the net. The Reign took the preseason win 2-1.

The Firebirds and Reign will hit the ice to start the season on Friday, October 2 at 7 p.m. at Acrisure Arena.
