Hurricane Marie to bring chances for some showers on Sunday

THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. (KESQ) – It's been a pleasant start to the holiday weekend so far! Highs continue to stay below seasonal. We're set to see elevated humidity, though, as Hurricane Marie begins impacting our weather. Shower chances begin Sunday.

It's been mostly dry so far this Saturday. Our models indicate a big shift by tomorrow morning, though. Dew points look to rise into the upper 60s at times, making for some sticky conditions.

Chances for showers are clear through Saturday night. Early Sunday morning (around 2:00 a.m.), we will start to see some light rain chances in our mountains. Our models show increasing chances Sunday morning. Chances continue through Sunday afternoon, but most of the activity looks to be west of the pass as the day goes on. I want to emphasize: rainfall totals don't look all too impressive. Most estimates put us below 0.2" for the day, so I don't think it'll be playing a huge role in your Labor Day weekend plans out here in the desert.

We begin clearing out past dinnertime on Sunday. Labor Day should stay quiet on the radar.

Hurricane Marie continues its northwest track, well clear of the Southern California coast. It is maintaining hurricane strength right now, but is expected to weaken as the weekend continues.

Temperatures tomorrow will be impacted by the added cloud cover and potential rainfall. Expect highs to dip into the low to mid 90s.

Highs will rebound once the rain passes, though we should stay below or near average through the week ahead!
