Palm Springs city employees encouraged to campaign for tax measure

The President of an employees union allegedly sent an email encouraging Palm Springs city employees to help get a tax measure on the November ballot passed or risk losing their jobs.

The letter was sent out to a number of city employees by SEIU721 Chapter President Simon Min. It urges employees to help spread information on Measure D to help it pass.

Measure D is a proposed sales tax increase up for debate in November.

Min writes that the measure is important because “it may determine whether or not there will be cuts, furloughs or drastic reduction in city services.” He also wrote that the measure not being passed may put their jobs at risk.

We reached out to the city who says the email violates their existing electronic communications guidelines.

This comes one day after we learned that the FPPC is investigating a mailer the city sent to residents pushing for support of both tax measures on the November ballot.
