TRAFFIC ALERT: Indio freeway closure

UPDATE 6:00 a.m. The freeway lanes have all reopened and traffic is moving again. Expect eastbound exit and westbound onramp closures today for continued interchange construction.

Motorists were being detoured off Interstate 10 early Tuesday morning as construction crews worked on the freeway lanes under the new Jefferson Street interchange.

The freeway’s eastbound lanes were shut down and traffic was being detoured off the freeway at the eastbound Jefferson exit. Traffic was being diverted to Avenue 42, then back onto the freeway at Monroe Street.

Westbound freeway lanes were open.

Motorists coming from Indio Boulevard and Jefferson Street in La Quinta were also facing short delays merging with the eastbound detour traffic.

Local representatives attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 17 to celebrate the interchange’s near completion.
