Veterans, active service members honored with weekend of events

Veterans and active services members are being honored throughout the valley this weekend as part of Patriots Weekend.

The fifth annual event brings together people in support of those who put their lives on the line. People gathered at Southwest Church Saturday following the Patriot Ride for our Heroes Bike Ride.

First responders said they appreciate being recognized for their efforts.

“We appreciate that, but we do a job because we want to. We hear a lot of this thank you for your service. It’s a job we’ve done, I’ve done it for 35 years, so it’s in us. It’s what we do,” firefighter Jim Berklite said.

Motorcycle riders made a stop at the church as part of their Salute to the Veterans Run.

Events wrap up Sunday with a car show at Southwest Church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
