Palm Desert to formally adopt commercial cannabis ordinance

The Palm Desert City Council is set to formally adopt it’s commercial cannabis ordinance at Thursday’s scheduled council meeting. The city council voted to approve the ordinance in September.

The ordinances contained regulations for potential businesses to follow including obtaining conditional use permits from the city’s planning commission and getting a state issued license from the Bureau of Cannabis Control before operating in the city.

Dispensaries would be located in commercial areas throughout the city and would include restrictions such as not being directly next to housing developments and not being within 1,500 feet of another cannabis business.

Other businesses like cultivation and testing facilities will be located in industrial areas and all businesses are not allowed to be located within 600 feet of a school.

The city is planning to issue six permits for dispensaries with more permits for cultivation.
