Suspect arrested in deadly Morongo Indian Reservation shooting

The Riverside County Sheriff’s confirmed that they have made an arrest in Wednesday night’s deadly Morongo Indian Reservation shooting.

One man was killed and two others were injured in a shooting just before 11 PM Wednesday at the Morongo Indian Reservation.

31-year-old Adrien Joseph Sotomayor has been arrested for one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder and has been booked in to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility in Banning.

This isn’t the first time Sotomayor has been charged with murder. He and another man were charged with murder for the 2008 beating death of a Cherry Valley resident in Yucaipa. Both men later pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and in 2010, Sotomayor was sentenced to three years in state prison, according to San Bernardino County court records.

55-year-old Gilbert Trevino of Beaumont was identified as the man who died in the shooting.

One man remains in critical condition while the other victim was released with minor injuries. Neither of the suspect nor the victims are tribal members or residents of Morongo.
