Child drowns in Palm Desert pool

A child died Monday after drowning in a pool in Palm Desert.

Cal Fire crews responded to reports of a child who drowned at the 10 block of Merill Drive off Cook Street near Frank Sinatra Drive.

The child was found in the pool by a family member, according to a news release by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Officers arrived and initiated CPR until relieved by personnel from the California Department of Forestry.

The child was transported by ground ambulance to an area hospital where the child passed away.

No word on the identity or the age of the child. The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the incident.

On Sunday night, a one-year-old boy identified as Diego Torres, died after he was found in a backyard pool in Indio.
