Three adults displaced after Palm Desert house fire

A cat & a dog are dead following a structure fire at a Palm Desert residence.

Firefighters received reports of a structure fire at the 74000 block of Peppergrass Street in Palm Desert at a little after 3:35 pm.

According to Cal Fire, the first arriving Chief Officer reported a single story, single family dwelling well-involved in fire.No word on injuries, 31 firefighters are on scene.

“I went to the sisters and kicked the door down, tried to get the animals out of there went around twice, two of the dogs ran off. And I did another check of the house. I lost Denver and my sister lost her cat,” said Joshua Monarque who narrowly escaped the fire with his life. Denver was Monarque’s 3-year-old dog.
Monarque was napping on the couch and woke up surrounded by flames.

“It just burst. If the smoke detector went off, I could have acted a little quicker. The fire department and EMS all could have been here sooner, so I did whatever I could,” Monarque said.

Crew on scene confirmed that a cat and a dog died in the fire, two other dogs were able to escape. Three adults were displaced.

Southern California Edison was requested to the scene to assist with down power lines that are active and arching.
