La Quinta car crash takes out Baskin Robbins storefront

It was a normal day at the Baskin Robbins on Hwy 111 in La Quinta until a car smashed through the front door, leaving melted ice cream and cake inside the shop.

Cal Fire said a 62-year-old driver failed to yield at a stop sign in time and drove into the store.

The crash happened at around 9 am before the business opened for the day.

One injury was reported, as a store clerk was pinned to a counter during the incident and was eventually taken to the hospital for minor bruising.

There was no structural damage to the building, the front door and glass will have to be replaced.

The property manager spoke said she’s never had anything like this happen before in the 20 years of business in that spot.

The store is now left to clean up the debris and try to bring some ice cream back into the shop.
