Senator Alex Padilla set to announce legislation expanding pathways to lawful permanent residency

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KESQ)-- Senator Alex Padilla (D-Calif.) is set to announce new legislation that will expand a pathway to lawful permanent residency for millions of long-term U.S. residents Friday July 25.
The new piece of legislation is being announced in the wake of expansive immigration enforcements from the Trump administration in California and across the nation.
Senator Padilla joined with Angelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights; impacted families, and other community leaders will come together in Downtown Los Angeles to propose the new pathway.
U.S. officials say Senator Padilla will continue leading the charge to pass immigration reforms that strengthen communities, protect long-term residents, and unlock America’s economic potential.
The new announcement goes alongside Senator Padilla's VISIBLE Act, which requires immigration enforcement officers to clearly display visible identification during public enforcement actions.
