$300 million, 12,000 seat stadium planned for Coachella Valley
Officials reveal plans for a $300 million, 12,000 football/soccer stadium and entertainment complex to be constructed in a site adjacent to the Classic Club in Palm Desert, on the north side of the 10 freeway.
The website for the project reveals “The Shield at 1 Coyote Way” is planned to cover 125 acres. The area will also be home to the Coachella Valley’s largest independent medical facility, a senior living facility, an outdoor fresh vegetable market, and other retail shops. The stadium is scheduled to open in 2021.
The Berger Foundation is in the process of selling the parcel of land intended for the project.
The project was supposed to be officially announced Thursday during the Coachella Valley Sports Tourism Summit at Fantasy Springs Casino, however the head coach of SoCal Coyotes, David Miller. contacted NewsChannel 3 & CBS Local 2 to say the second hour of the summit that included the stadium announcement was postponed.
Miller said this was to not overshadow the overall summit.
