Police Seek ‘Person Of Interest’ In Coachella Teen’s Shooting

COACHELLA – A gunman is still on the loose after allegedly shootingand killing a16-year-old Thursday afternoon outside theBoys and Girls Club in Coachella.

Angel Lunawas reportedly riding his bike onthe sidewalk just north of the Boys and Girls Club, when he was shot.

Today, police are looking for a “person of interest.” Twenty-six-year-old Angel Esparza is wanted for questioning in the case.

Moses Quintana lives in the nearby apartments, he says he heard five gunshots, ran outside and found a young man who’d been shot. Quintana sayshe saw another male about 5’5″ wearing a black hoodie sweatshirt running from the scene through a neighborhood at 9th and Orchard.

Studentsat Palmview Elementary School, Bobby Duke Middle School had been sent home about 45 minutes before the shooting occurred,but both schools were placed in lockdown for their afterschool activities. No students were injured.

Thatlaunched a neighborhood-wide search for the gunman, leading police to surroundseveral local homes and force their way inside, where they found no one.

The search continues for the gunman.
