Poizner Would Cut Funding To ‘Sanctuary Cities’ To Stop Illegal Immigration

Republican gubernatorial candidate Steve Poizner, speaking today in La Quinta, said he would cut off state funding to “sanctuary cities” as part of his crackdown on illegal immigration.

Poizner, the state’s insurance commissioner, made the comment to reporters before a town hall-style meeting at the Homewood Suites by Hilton.

“Illegal immigration has got to stop,” Poizner told the website. “We can’t afford this any longer.”

Poizner also spoke about how to make California more business-friendly and how to close the state’s nearly $20 billion budget deficit.

The insurance commissioner has proposed 10 percent tax cuts for every person and business in California.

Poizner spoke to Republican women’s groups in Temecula on Tuesday and Banning on Wednesday.

Poizner’s rival for the GOP nomination, former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, was campaigning in Camarillo and Santa Barbara today, discussing her plan to reduce government spending.
