Cross Country Trek To Raise Funds For Military Families

Seven-thousand miles across America, all while beating a drum, to raise awareness and money for struggling military families.

Troy Yocum averages over 20 miles a day, rain or shine, as part of a 16-month journey that will take him through 30 states.

He says he hopes to raise $5 million dollars to help out the families of those serving in the armed forces, who have been hit hard in these tough economic times.

Yocum says he chose to march while banging a drum because he wanted to have a way to draw attention to his cause and it seemed symbolic of the Civil War and patriotism.

He added that even though the U.S. isn’t in a war now, many are still fighting a day-to-day battle to provide for their families.

His trek started in Kentucky back in April with hopes of making it here to California in time for Labor Day.

It brought him to Twentynine Palms on Wednesday and will take him to Palm Springs around November 19th.

If you’d like to help out military families around the nation just text “soldiers” to 20222 for a five dollar donation… as Yocum pushes on, beat by beat, in his cause to raise awareness across the country.
