Two Dead In Cathedral City Shooting, Baby Among Others Wounded
Cathedral City police officers responded to a 911 call referencing multiple shots fired on the 67100 block of Assistencia road. As officers arrived, they found several people in the street suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
A 16 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released.
20 year old Augustine Garcia of Cathedral City was also pronounced dead at the hospital after having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Among those wounded was a 14 year old woman who was shot once in the arm and transported to the hospital. Her injuries were non-life threatening, however she will require surgery.
A 15 year old man was shot multiple times and taken to the hospital. He has undergone surgery and is currently in critical condition.
38 year old Daniel Ayala of Cathedral City was shot multiple times, though his injuries were non-life threatening.
A 2 month old infant also sustained a single gunshot wound to the leg and taken to the hospital. The infant was then airlifted to Loma Linda Hospital. The infant’s injuries were determined to be non-life threatening.
Police say the suspect’s vehicle stopped in the street next to the victims, who were visiting a group between two vehicles in the roadway. The driver of the suspect’s car rolled down the window and said, “Where you from?” The victims were then shot through the open window with a handgun.
The 16 year old woman who was shot dead was holding her 2 month old infant at the time of the shooting. The driver then sped off. The vehicle was last seen heading eastbound on Assistencia Road at a high speed.
Police believe the shooting was gang related.
The Cathedral City police department is asking the public for help locating the suspects. They were last seen in a newer 4-door Gold or Champagne colored Chevy HHR with tinted windows and stock wheels.
The suspect driving the vehicle is described as a light skinned Hispanic man, about 20-25 years old, clean shave with dark hair and wearing a black “beanie” hat. Anyone with information is asked to call Valley Crime Stoppers at (760) 341-STOP.
