Palm Springs Chamber hosts going away party for Desert Fashion Plaza tonight

The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce will host a “Goodbye to Desert Fashion Plaza” event today before the shopping center is demolished to make way for redevelopment.
The event is scheduled for 5 p.m. at the mall; guests can enter through the next-door Hyatt Regency, 285 N. Palm Canyon Drive.
Attendees will be able to peek into the mall for the last time and enjoy a dueling piano show, appetizers and a cash bar, according to the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce.
As part of the Palm Springs Downtown Revitalization Plan, the long- vacant mall will make way for a pedestrian-friendly “urban village,” including retail, entertainment and public spaces.
In November 2011, Measure J was approved by voters to fund public infrastructure improvements and bankroll a $43 million investment in the project. The measure raised the city’s sales tax from 7.75 percent to 8.75 percent.
Tickets to the chamber event are $25 and available at www.pschamber.org or by calling (760) 325-1577.
