Students take architectural bus tour as part of Modernism Week in Palm Springs

Palm Springs Modernism Week is organizing the first Joan Hayward Double-Decker Architectural Bus Tour for local students Wednesday.

Students from local high schools and colleges who are interested in architecture and design will leave at 10 a.m. Wednesday on a two-hour tour of mid-century architecture and landmarks in Palm Springs.

Hayward, the tour’s namesake, worked on bus tours for Modernism Week and supported creating a scholarship program for the students. She worked with architects who designed several buildings at Cascade Campus of Portland Community College in Oregon, where she was an administrator, and has a second home in Palm Springs.

Modernism Week is an 11-day celebration of the popular design aesthetic from the 1950s and 1960s and continues through Feb. 24. For information, go to www.modernismweek.com.
