Women compete Thursday at Pentathlon World Cup in Palm Springs

The women’s qualifier in USA Pentathlon World Cup #1 will be held Thursday at Palm Springs Stadium and two other venues at Sunrise Park, with London Olympics bronze medalist Yane Marques of Brazil leading the field of 60 pentathletes from 28 nations.

The U.S. entrants include Margaux Isaksen, who finished fourth in the Olympics, eight points behind Marques, and her younger sister Isabella.

The field will be split into two groups, with the top 18 in each group qualifying for Saturday’s final

Competition will begin at 7:30 a.m. and will continue through the rest of daylight hours.

Tickets are $8 with children under 12 admitted free. More information is available on the event’s website, usapworldcup.org.

The men’s qualifier was held Wednesday, with Austrian Thomas Daniel recording the highest score, 4,580. Other qualifiers included David Svoboda of the Czech Republic, the gold medalist at the 2012 London Olympics, who was fourth in his group and tied for eighth overall with 4,532 points.

Of the 11 American pentathletes, only Olympian Dennis Bowsher qualified for Friday’s final, finishing second in his group and fourth overall with 4,568 points.

The top 12 in each of the three groups advanced to Friday’s final.
