2 arrested for trespassing, removing railroad property

A crew with Union Pacific noticed two suspicious people near their train just before 7 a.m. Thursday. The train was stopped along the railroad tracks between Thousand Palms and Palm Desert, according to police.

Union Pacific called CHP to report the activity. Officers arrested both suspects at the scene.

One is being charged with trespassing and the other is charged with removing railroad property, Union Pacific Spokesperson Mark Davis said. The train was released and was back on its way around 9 a.m.

Authorities haven’t said exactly what type of railroad equipment was removed and there was no additional information released regarding the suspects.
