Man busted with 26 lbs. of meth in Palm Desert

Border Patrol agents with the El Centro Sector arrested a suspected narcotics smuggler after they discovered more than 26 lbs. of methamphetamine in his pickup truck.

The 62-year-old man was pulled over on I-10 near the Bob Hope Drive exit around 8 a.m. Wednesday. He was driving a 2000 Chevy Silverado.

A Border Patrol K9 team alerted agents to the truck and the vehicle was transported to the Indio Station for inspection. Agents found 20 vacuum-sealed packages of methamphetamine hidden in a wall constructed behind the passenger side seat of the truck.

Agents said the meth weighed 26.1 lbs. and is estimated to cost $261,000.

The suspect, truck, and narcotics were turned over to the D.E.A. as the investigation continues.
