First LGBT assisted living debuts

Palm Springs debuts its first senior assisted living village for the LGBT community this weekend.

Stonewall Gardens, located on Palm Canyon in North Palm Springs, is holding an open house Saturday and Sunday.

Potential residents can come tour the community’s apartments grounds and public areas.

There are 24 units in total and the first residents are expected to move in next week.

“We’ve been waiting for this for so long. It’s finally here, it should have happened a long time ago. The timing is perfect, people are waiting and people are ready to make the move,” said Dee Wieringa, Executive Director of Stonewall Gardens.

The open house runs again Sunday from 11 am to 3 pm, there is a wait list for units.
