Border Patrol finds 970 lbs. of marijuana in abandoned SUV

Border Patrol agents seized over $400,000 of marijuana Monday morning that was apparently left in an SUV by two suspects who escaped back to Mexico.

Camera operators saw an Infinity QX4 heading north across the U.S./Mexico border shortly after 8 a.m. Operators lost sight of the SUV when the driver turned east at the border.

A Border Patrol agent found the SUV abandoned just south of Highway 98. The vehicle was full of large bundles of plastic-wrapped marijuana, according to the Border Patrol’s release. A total of 80 bundles of marijuana, weighing 970.33 lbs., was seized.

Border Patrol estimates the street value of the marijuana at $436,600.

Agents tracked footprints of two suspects heading south toward the border, but the suspects disappeared back into Mexico, according to the release.

The marijuana and SUV are now in possession of the D.E.A.
