Broadcast Engineer

Reports to: Assistant Chief Engineer

Job Purpose and Objective: Provide technical support to the operation of Gulf California Broadcast and our news products of News Channel 3 and CBS Local 2. Maintain and assist with the installation and maintenance of all broadcast equipment and broadcast systems.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with the NPG DVE Team and Vendor Tech Support on maintaining/troubleshooting Automation Systems, Broadcast Servers, HD/SD Video Encoders, HD/SD Video Multiplexers, Video and Audio Processing Frames/Cards, NPG’s MediaFlow, and all other digital video processors/servers.
Work with the NPG Server Team and Vendor Tech Support on maintaining/troubleshooting Servers, SANs, VMware and all Systems hosted at the corporate home office.
Work with the NPG Network Team and Vendor Tech Support on maintaining/troubleshooting Network Switches, Firewalls, Domain Controllers, SSL VPN Connectivity, Bandwidth Monitoring and Network Access.
Work with the NPG Service Desk and Vendor Tech Support on maintaining/troubleshooting Windows/Mac Workstations, Printers, Digital Phone Systems and end user software.
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer maintain/troubleshoot Production Control Room (PCR) Systems including but not limited to: CG Systems, News Editing Systems, PCR Switchers, Audio Consoles and Teleprompter Systems.
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer maintain/troubleshoot Newsroom Systems including but not limited to: Newsroom Solution Systems like ENPS or iNews, Editing Systems, Field Camera Kits, ENG Trucks/Equipment and Media Gathering Systems such as CNN and Pathfire.
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer maintain/troubleshoot Studio Systems including but not limited to: Lighting Systems, Camera Systems, Microphone Systems, IFB Systems and Weather Systems.
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer maintain/troubleshoot RF Systems including but not limited to: Transmitters/Translators, Microwave Systems, Satellite Systems, Antenna Systems and RF Distribution Systems.
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer maintain/troubleshoot Facilities, consisting of AC units both at the studio and transmitter sites, generators and transfer switches, building lights, water and plumbing, Fire and security systems.
Under the direction of the Chief Engineer maintain an efficient and friendly help desk (Cherwell) to all departments. Also, provide technical support and assistance towards News and Sales initiatives designed to increase ratings and revenue.

Qualifications:

HS Diploma required
2+ years experience working in a broadcast, cable, RF or IT environment required
2+ years experience working in Technical Support
Degree in Computer and/or Electrical Engineering preferred but not required
A+, ACMT, CTO, CBT, CBTE, or CBNE certifications preferred but not required

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, talk, see and hear. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds unassisted and climb at least 40 feet. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Work Environment:

While performing duties of this job, the employee may occasionally work in outside weather conditions. Overnight trips within California are occasionally required.
